WHY PERSONAL TRAINERS GET A BAD RAP?
This morning I was in LA Fitness working out as a guest. I must say it is almost as entertaining as going to an amusement park. Being in the field of fitness for just shy of 20 years and having a degree in Exercise Science, I watch everyone around me especially the personal trainers that work for Pro Results (Body of Change).
I now truly understand why personal trainers have a mixed reputation. I particularly watched two trainers.
The first trainer looked pissed to even be alive. She had her arms crossed and stood there and watched the client do the exercise. She didn’t even make conversation with him and most important never corrected his form.
I felt bad for the client. I think I would personally re-access what I am getting for my $65.00/hour or so.
Maybe he didn’t know any better.
The second trainer certainly looked the part. Big arms sticking out of his shirt, which must make him qualified. He had a gentleman lying on his back with his legs straight up in the air. The client was holding on to the trainer’s feet and the trainer was throwing the client’s legs to the floor. This is supposed to be an abdominal exercise.
However, the key to the exercise is to keep your core stable by not altering the joint angle or arching your back. I can tell you from being at fitness conferences, very few people can lower their legs to the floor without arching their back, none the less having someone push your legs to the floor.
What can I say?
It is only a matter of time where these people quit because they are injured or don’t see results.
The lesson to be learned is to hire a qualified personal trainer.
